DIY Ideas for your own Lucky St. Paddy’s Bar Party!

This year, instead of doing the typical St. Patty's Day Bar Crawl, why not throw an Irish-themed bash right in your own home? Instead of trawling through bars, do a “cocktail potluck” and get guests to bring their own concoctions to contribute to the party! Not only is it a great way to take the pressure off preparing all the drinks, it’s a great way to bond with your buddies!

 To get those creative juices flowing, here are 10 spiffy St. Patrick’s Day drink ideas to get the luck of the Irish!

1.Grasshopper Cocktail

A simple and old-fashioned classic famous in New Orleans, this cocktail tastes just like a mint chocolate milkshake!

 

Prep Time: 3 minutes

Ingredients

• 3/4 ounce green creme de menthe

• 3/4 ounce white creme de cacao

• 3/4 ounce whipping cream

 

Instructions

1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and pour in all ingredients.

2. Shake until chilled, and strain the mixture into a cocktail glass.

3. Garnish with a sprig of mint.

 

 

2. Irish Coffee

Another classic cocktail, this is a quintessential after-dinner drink. Featuring coffee and Irish Whiskey, add a dash of Irish cream or a shot of Bailey’s for added sweetness.

Prep Time: 8 minutes

Ingredients

• 1 1/2 ounces Irish whiskey

• 6 ounces of hot coffee

• Whipped cream

• Optional: 3/4 ounce Irish cream, Bailey’s or a teaspoon of brown sugar

 

Instructions

1. Pour the whiskey into an Irish coffee mug.

2. Put a spoon in the mug and pour in the hot coffee - the spoon somehow magically keeps the glass from breaking due to the hot liquid (don't ask us how, just enjoy the laws of physics).

3. If you're adding sugar, do it now and stir until it dissolves.

4. Add the whipped cream on top. 5. Garnish with coffee beans, coffee grinds or brown sugar sprinkles.

 

3. Honeydew Martini

The Honeydew Martini tastes about the way you’d expect. Midori tastes like honeydew, vodka adds no particular flavor, and the triple sec is a small enough amount to just give the drink a little edge of sweet and tart. It’s delicious if you like Midori, and goes well with saltier dishes such as quiches or pretzels.

Prep Time: 3 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 3 ounces vodka
  • 1/2 ounce Midori.  
  • 1/2 ounce triple sec
  • Orange slices

Instructions:

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with crushed ice.
  2. Pour all your ingredients in with it.
  3. Shake it up well and strain the mixture into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a slice of orange.

 

 4.    Irish Sour Apple Cocktail

A yummy cocktail for fans of sour apple gummies, this is an easy and fun recipe to make.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

 Ingredients:

  • 1 oz Jameson Irish Whiskey
  • 1 1/2 oz Smirnoff Sour Apple Vodka
  • 3 1/2 oz Fever-Tree Elderflower Tonic Water
  • Green Apple Slices
  • Ice Cubes

Instructions:

  1. In a cocktail shaker add Jameson Irish Whiskey, Smirnoff Sour Apple Vodka and ice cubes.
  2. Stir contents for 25 seconds using a long-handled cocktail spoon.
  3. Strain into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice.
  4. Top off with Fever-Tree Elderflower Tonic Water.
  5. Garnish with slices of green apple.
  6. Serve.

 

 

5. Boozy Lucky Charm Milkshake

For a boozy dose of childhood in a drink, make these magically delicious milkshakes that will leave you wanting more than one! This drink takes slightly longer to make, but it’s sure to be the scene stealer at your party.

Prep Time: 40 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups lucky charms marshmallows
  • 2 cups milk
  • 4 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 1/3 cup vodka
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • marshmallow frosting or whipped cream
  • Lucky charms cereals

Instructions:

  • Add the marshmallows to a food processor and blend until powdery. It’s okay if a few larger pieces remain.
  • Add the milk to a large bowl and pour in the blended marshmallows.
  • Stir to combine, then let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes.
  • After 30 minutes, add the ice cream, marshmallow milk, vodka and vanilla extract to a blender. You can add extra cereal if you’d like!
  • Blend until combined and pour into glasses.
  • Top with frosting (or whipped cream!) and some extra marshmallows.

 

 

 6. Irish Margarita

Fruity and sweet, this green cocktail is a twist on the classic margarita, and it is sure to win guests over with its enticing emerald green color and gold sugar rim. 

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces reposado tequila
  • 2 ounces blue curacao
  • 2 ounces peach schnapps
  • 1 ounce Irish whiskey
  • 1 ounce Aperol
  • 1 ounce lime juice
  • 8-12 ounces pineapple juice depends on personal taste
  • 2 rounds lime for garnish
  • Gold sugar crystals for rim
  • Corn syrup for rim
  • 1 cup shaved ice Blend 2 cups ice in the blender until it's like snow

Instructions:

  1. Carefully spread corn syrup on the rims of 2 margarita glasses.
  2. Pour the gold sugar crystals out on a plate.
  3. Run the rims of the glasses through the sugar crystals to coat.
  4. Using a big cookie scoop, add a rounded scoop of ice to each of the glasses.
  5. Add the tequila, curacao, schnapps, whiskey, Aperol, and juices to a shaker filled with ice.
  6. Shake for a few seconds.
  7. Pour half into each glass.
  8. Garnish with a round of lime.

 

 

7. Irish Flag Shot

Get a drinkable rendition of the Irish flag with this fun shooter! Pretty and colourful, this drink is not as hard to make as it looks, and tastes like an alternative B-52 shot.

 

Prep Time: 3 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 shot green creme de menthe
  • 1/3 shot Licor 43
  • 1/3 shot Irish cream

 Instructions:

  1. Carefully pour and layer the above drinks in order. Pour slowly to keep the drinks from blending into each other

 

 

8. Matcha Honey Spritzer

A light and refreshing drink, this drink makes for a great party starter.

 

Prep Time: 3 minutes

Ingredients:

  • Matcha powder
  • Lemon wedges
  • Warm water
  • Honey
  • Dry white wine
  • Ginger ale

 Instructions:

  1. Dissolve 1/4 teaspoon of matcha powder in 1 teaspoon warm water.
  2. Add 1 tablespoon honey and stir until well mixed.
  3. Add ice, 3 ounces of dry white wine and 2 ounces of ginger ale.
  4. Garnish with lemon wedge.

 

9. Lucky Leprechaun Rum Punch

Taste holiday in a cup with this tropical pineapple citrus concoction! A great cocktail for our humid weather, this punchy, fruity drink is a great staple for the drinks table.

 

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 bunch fresh mint, stems removed plus more for garnish
  • 2 pkg. Kool-Aid Lemon-Lime Flavor Unsweetened Drink Mix
  • 2 qt. (8 cups) pineapple juice, chilled
  • 1 bottle (2 L) carbonated lemon-lime soda, chilled
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) white rum, optional
  • 2 lemon, sliced
  • 3 lime, sliced

Instructions:

  1. Rim glasses: Place Lucky Charms marshmallows in a ziplock bag and crush into small pieces. Pour out onto a plate and set aside. Dip glasses in honey then in crushed marshmallows.
  2. Make the punch: Muddle mint with Kool-Aid in punch bowl or pitcher.
  3. Add pineapple juice; stir until mix is dissolved.
  4. Stir in soda, rum and fruit just before serving.
  5. To serve, pour punch carefully into rimmed glasses, add a few extra slices of citrus and a sprig of mint.

 

10. Spicy BLT Green Bloody Marys

Spice up a regular Bloody Mary with some bacon and jalapeno, and get your party guests revved up for the evening.

 

 Prep Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 cups green tomatoes
  • 2 teaspoons red wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons of parsley
  • ½ cup English cucumber chunks
  • 2 limes, juiced
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 jalapeno, quartered
  • 2 teaspoons horseradish
  • Ice
  • 8 ounces of vodka
  • Kosher salt to taste 

For Garnish:

  • 4 romaine lettuce leaf hearts
  • 4 strips crispy bacon
  • cherry tomatoes
  • Lemon wedges 

 

Instructions

  1. Combine the green tomatoes, vinegar, parsley, cucumber chunks, lime juice, Worcestershire and jalapeno in the jar of a blender. Puree on high until very smooth.
  2. Stir in the horseradish and the vodka. Season to taste with kosher salt.
  3. Fill 4 glasses with ice cubes.
  4. Pour over ice and garnish with Romaine lettuce leaf hearts, and crispy strips of bacon and cherry tomatoes and lemon wedges.
