How To Get More From Your Vacuum Cleaner
We're in love with our vacuum cleaners, and not just because they zip away every dust ball from the corners of our homes, but for the sheer possibilities of use they offer us. Read on to find out the 5 quick ways they could make your domestic life better than you could ever imagine.
#1 - Vacuum Your Bed

For half of a king-sized bed, pour about 1 cup of baking soda and 4 to 5 drops of lavender essential oil or your preferred scent in a bottle, and shake it thoroughly. Pour enough baking soda through a sifter or strainer to lightly dust your mattress with it. Leave on for an hour or more, allowing it time to draw out dirt, moisture, and odor before vacuuming over it slowly.
#2 - Your Pantyhose Is Your New BFF
Especially if you have a tendency to drop small items like beads or earring studs on the floor. One way to recover these small lost objects is by securing a pantyhose over the head of the vacuum hose with a rubber band so it doesn't get sucked into the vacuum, and vacuum under tables and chairs. Lost and found, easy peasy!
#3 – Add Cinnamon To The Vacuum Bags
Want to make your house smelling fresh and ready for guests in a jiffy? Simply add a bit of cinnamon powder before vacuuming and the sweet scented spice will gently permeate your house when you’re done.
#4 – For Carpeted Surfaces, Go With The Grain
Avoid vacuuming a carpet when it's wet. Not only will you be risking an electrical shock hazard, the moisture trapped in the hose or bag makes it conducive for mold and odour-causing bacteria to take up residency.
#5 - Use Different Vacuum Heads That Well, Suck
Or a toilet roll cardboard. Even the best vacuum cleaner won’t be able to clean everything, so for window binds or sills, the brush, or fit the cardboard role to the end of your vacuum cleaner’s suction tube end and bend the cardboard to fit whatever you need to get into.
